We are pleased to announce details of the forthcoming Music at Minterne events taking place in June 2025, under the artistic direction of Guy Johnston. We look forward to welcoming audiences to a weekend of distinguished music-making, talks, and masterclasses, all held in the elegant surroundings of Trafalgar Hall.
It is a rare and wonderful opportunity to hear such outstanding musicians perform in the heart of Dorset, and these are concerts not to be missed.
Friday 20th June
The series will commence on Friday evening with a pre-concert talk by the esteemed broadcaster and writer Stephen Johnson, beginning at 5.15pm, followed by a concert at 6.00pm. The evening’s programme will feature works by Franz Schubert, including the Fantasie in C for Piano and Violin and the celebrated Piano Quintet in A Major, D.667 (‘The Trout Quintet’).

Saturday 21st June
On Saturday afternoon, Guy Johnston will give a cello masterclass with students from Wells Cathedral School, offering a fascinating insight into the art of performance and interpretation. The masterclass will take place from 2:00 to 4:00 PM in Trafalgar Hall.

Sunday 22nd June
Our June series concludes with a piano recital by Melvyn Tan. The programme features Debussy’s Préludes, Book One, followed by an interval, and Schubert’s great Piano Sonata in B-flat Major, D.960. The afternoon will open with a pre-concert talk by Stephen Johnson at 4:00 PM, with tea and cakes served at 4:30 PM, before the recital begins at 5:00 PM in Trafalgar Hall.
